Every once in awhile, it’s nice to take stock of your wardrobe. Clothes come and go, but accessories are lifelong companions, punching up your outfit a notch to hide the fact that you’ve worn those tee and jeans three times this week. Since we’re all busy bees, no one bag can do it all. A clunky tote isn’t ideal for your dinner date, just like a clutch won’t fit your laptop and work papers. Choosing the right silhouette balances your ensemble and provides the perfect finishing touch. Do you have all of these essential shapes in your closet?

Looking ever so chic on the crook of your arm, the satchel boasts enough room for your daily essentials minus the bulk. Mixing short handles with a bevy of closures (zipper, snap, drawstring, buckle), it’s easily the most versatile shape, earning its place in the front of your closet (and heart) rather quickly. Even better if it distinguishes itself with a pop of color, like this beaut (Emily Swagger) by Aimee Kestenberg.

The throw-all bag doesn’t have to look thrown together! Luxe materials like leather and snakeskin make for a sophisticated bag to stash not so luxe items like sneakers or baby formula. Key characteristics include its ability to pull off different shapes. So long as the handles and a large opening for easy access are on top, it can be any shape. Durability and craftsmanship are key quantities of an abused bag such as the tote and we think these have the right idea.

Sister-in-law of the tote, a shopper is a bit more dressed up than a tote, even if the silhouettes are similar. Always trying to one up it’s family member, it usually succeeds. You can rely on your shopper to hold all your life’s possessions in the most simple, rectangular and utilitarian way. And let’s be honest, who can be jealous when it looks this good?

Adored by boho beauties and prepsters alike, the hobo serves up the perfect mix of structure and style by their distinct crescent shape. Coming in at all softness levels (slouchy, flexible, stiff) hobos add an inexplicable cool (and storage space) to your outfit.

No hands, don’t care! No explanation is needed as to why a crossbody (or 2!) should occupy your closet, but we’ll tell ya anyway. Sometimes your bag doesn’t have to be center of attention because who wants to fiddle with handles when Starbucks, your morning juice and the dog’s leash are taking over your morning? Our designers at Mor-Chu think of everything, so several crossbodies come with a detachable strap for maximum versatility as a crossbody, satchel, or clutch. That’s what we call double duty!

The Kinetic by MOFÉ is a perfect example of an adorable crossbody that can transform into a clutch.

And for a color splash that is perfect for spring, we love the Mini Square Crossbody by RoviMoss

The crown jewel of going out attire is the clutch. Chic, cute, compact- call it anything but bulky. Spring is near (right NYC??) which means more rooftop bars, garden parties, and dresses that require a bag tucked neatly under your arm. We love these clutches for their shape, detail and up for anything attitude. So clutch.

The Wallet Clutch with Chain by Beirn is both exotic and colorful.
